BT's new generation of 'green' phones - available now at Bigboxshop.co.uk

BT, in conjunction with British Gas, has launched a new range of ‘green phones.’ These handsets have been specially designed to save energy with power units that draw just half of the power of current units.

BT has also reduced the amount of packaging for each phone, replacing the user guides with smaller "quick-start" leaflets. More detailed guides are available on request or online.

Phones included in this new ‘green’ range include the BT Graphite 1100 and BT Graphite 1500 twin with answering machine.

The move is part of BT’s £2 million commitment to improve the energy efficiency of its entire home-phone range. They claim that replacing its fixed line and DECT cordless phones with these new models will reduce CO2 emissions by 195,000 tonnes in the next three years, equivalent to taking 57,000 cars off the road for a year.
Crucially, this also adds up to a significant reduction of £39m in electricity bills.
The company has promised that more than 90% of its phones will be more energy efficient by July 2008 and that this won’t result in a rise in prices
Gavin Patterson, BT group managing director, Consumer said: “BT has continued to address environmental concerns by launching phones that consume approximately half the electricity of previous models; this will make a major contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
